CHAIR’S CHRISTMAS MESSAGE

Christmas is fast approaching…and it starts too early, but that’s just my view! The Association branches have been busy throughout the year. Mostly with the very important social occasions, but also at the various memorials around the country and not forgetting an excellent Reunion Dinner.

The Trustees have continued to meet as required by our constitution. The most recent one centrally held in Birmingham. An eventful travelling day, having picked the one day the tracks were flooded. However, the required business was achieved, including a review of our policies. These new and updated documents will be posted to our website once they’ve been ‘topped and tailed’. A list of these documents will be included in the annual mailing (sent out at the end of February).

The family have requested that is family flowers only but donations, if desired, should be made at the service or directly to the RNLI (HERE for their website and HERE for a map) or the British Heart Foundation (HERE for their website)

The arrangements for the funeral will be made by Alan Duckworth Funeral Directors, (HERE for their website and HERE for a map) and these arrangements, once made will be sitreped on this page as usual.

The RFAA Offices in the Semaphore Tower have been re-assigned to BAE Systems and our Archive and registered Charity Office have been moved to

Room 15
Building 1/078
Stony Lane
PP 15
HM Naval Base
Portsmouth
PO1 3NH

The address is our archive location and the official Charity address.  This address will be infrequently checked for mail and all correspondence should be directed to our home addresses as appropriate.

I have been promised some photographs which I will add to this page when received.

The new property remains within the secure area of the Dockyard, which is a pain but on the bright side it is very inexpensive.

I have just received a report from John Hood that John Carroll Rooney Crossed the Bar, it reads :-

"I have just been informed of the death of John Rooney ex RFA Seafarer who served onboard RFA REGENT during the Falkland's conflict. His funeral takes place at Dalbeth Cemetery, 1881 London Glasgow G32 8XF on Thursday 21st Feb. John lived alone and received support from the Scottish Nautical Welfare Society and it is likely there will be no one to mark his passing at his funeral. I'm in Northern Ireland and unable to attend so if any local members are able to attend or know of any of his shipmates this would be much appreciated."

(I have and am still having serious problems with this site making it difficult to write an appropriate post, so bear with me.)

John Crossed the Bar on Tuesday 29th January 2017, after a short illness, aged 73

I have been in contact with the Funeral Directors, Allan Menzies (HERE for their website and HERE for a map) and they have informed me that John's funeral (interrment)  will take place at Dalbeth Cemetery (HERE for their website and HERE for a map) on Thursday 21 February at 12:00. It will be a graveside service. I have arranged an RFA Ensign to dress John's coffin.
